Sound familiar?

Signs your pool pump needs attention

1

It got loud

Grinding, screeching or a rattle that was not there last season.

2

It hums but will not start

You hear it try, then nothing moves.

3

It will not prime

The pump runs, but the basket never fills and water is not circulating.

4

It is leaking

Water under the pump, or air bubbles coming out of the returns.

5

It runs fine and costs a fortune

An older single-speed pump running flat out all day.

Any of these is worth a look before the pump quits completely and the water turns.

What we do with pumps

Repair, replace or upgrade

Tap an option to see what it involves.

Repair the pump you have

We find the actual cause first. If the pump can be fixed, we tell you, and there is no pressure to replace it.

Small fixes that need no parts are generally done on the first visit.

Replace it with a new pump

When a pump is past saving, we quote a replacement before any work starts and install it ourselves.

Pumps we install
  • Pentair IntelliFlo3
  • Jandy VS FloPro
  • Hayward TriStar
New pump installs: 3-year warranty, parts and labor.

Upgrade to variable speed

A variable-speed pump runs slower for most of the day instead of at full power all the time. That uses far less electricity and is much quieter.

New pump installs: 3-year warranty, parts and labor.

Booster pumps

The second, smaller pump that powers a pressure-side pool cleaner. We repair and replace those too.

Booster pump we install
  • Polaris PB4SQ
Booster pumps: 1 to 2 year warranty.
How it works

How a pump repair goes

  1. 1

Tell us what it is doing

A short description and a photo of the pump and its label is enough to start.

  2. 2

We come out and diagnose it

A technician finds the real cause. A service call fee covers the visit.

  3. 3

    Quick fix or quote

Small repairs without parts are done then and there. Anything bigger is quoted first.

  4. 4

    Your fee comes back

Approve the repair and the service call fee is credited toward it.

Worth knowing

Why most new pool pumps are variable-speed

The pump is usually the biggest electricity user on a pool. A single-speed pump only knows one setting, full power, whether the pool needs it or not.

A variable-speed pump can do most of its work at low speed, which takes a fraction of the energy and makes far less noise. Federal efficiency rules that took effect in 2021 mean most replacement pool pumps sold today are variable-speed, so if your old pump fails, an upgrade is often part of the replacement anyway.

Pool Pump Repair questions

Should I repair or replace my pool pump?

It depends on what has failed. We diagnose it first and tell you what we see. There is no pressure to replace a pump that can be fixed, and a replacement is always quoted before work starts.

Which pool pumps do you install?

Most often the Pentair IntelliFlo3, the Jandy VS FloPro and the Hayward TriStar. For booster pumps we install the Polaris PB4SQ.

What warranty comes with a new pool pump?

New pump installs carry a three-year warranty on parts and labor. Booster pumps carry a one to two year warranty.

Is there a charge to come out and look at my pump?

Yes, there is a service call fee for the diagnosis. If you go ahead with the repair, that fee is credited toward it.

Is a variable-speed pump worth it?

A variable-speed pump runs at low speed most of the time, which uses much less electricity than a single-speed pump and is quieter. Most replacement pumps sold today are variable-speed.
